Chase Field photo essay

Chase used to go by "Bob." Bank One Ballpark was the name. Very near downtown, the ballpark is one of the major elements of the skyline. It looks like a giant complex mall or warehouse with the roof closed. Inside, seats are generally very good, but the upper deck is extremely large.

The seats at "BOB" are angled toward home plate. Pictured is a view of right field. The centerr field is 19 feet tall, and in right center is the famed swimming pool. For as much attention as it gets, it is actually quite small. BOB's plan is unusual because it is more or less a square inside a diamond to shape the field.

Arizona's park was one of the first to have a transparent railing in front of the first row. The infield dirt section is recognizable because of its path from home plate to the pitchers mound. In this picture the roof is open - BOB was the first retractable roof stadium to have both a convertible roof as well as grass.

From the home team dugout looking up at the center field scoreboard. BOB's scoreboard is one of the most impressive but also one of the most imposing in all of baseball. It also fills in most of the view of what would otherwise be a mostly blank wall above the center field fence but for some open panels that reveal sections of the setting.

More or less the view of the first base coach. This shot gives a good feel for the way the outfield seat sections are structured. Above those seats is a TGI Friday's right in the restaurant. It offers wonderful views of the field even on non-game days.
