Colorado: Coors Field

Overview

Coors Field is home to the Colorado Rockies.

It was the fourth retro park to be built, and it was certainly the largest, both in capacity and footprint.

The basic structure seems heavy, with thick railings around the upper deck. And the field is very large so the ballpark seems a little bulky. But generally views are good, although the center field upper deck seems not so much. The main concourse goes all the way around the stadium, a nice feature that makes navigation easy and late inning strolls interesting. After home runs there are no fireworks although the "rockpile" in center field does spew water.

Perhaps the park's biggest strength is its location and integration into the area. It is near downtown Denver, within walking distance and in a fun area with lots of bars and eateries. The pre- and postgame atmosphere is lively and fun.

Unique features include a view of the Rocky mountains, Mountain Oysters eatery and a row of purple seats near the top of the upper deck that represent the one mile above sea level marker. Behind home plate, the brick exterior is one of the more recognizable in baseball with a clocktower-like facade at the home plate entrance.
